Nash's Speech

Nash seems to be following in his big sister's footsteps. When we took Nash to the doctor for his 2 year checkup, I expressed my concern for his lack of communication. Nash can say any word that you ask him to say. He is so smart already knowing his colors and numbers! But when he communicates with you he often says "Uh". Dr. D suggested we contact Kids on the Move. They are a non profit organization that helps children before the age of three with any type of developmental or communication delays. They came out and tested Nash a few weeks ago and showed that he was eligible for this assistance. He tested moderate (right before severe) with a delay in his expressive language. So this week we saw the nurse, tomorrow the developmental specialist comes to make sure there are no other issues besides communication, and then the following Tuesday we start the therapy. They are suggesting that Nash has low tone in the muscles in his face. He tends to keep his mouth partially open and drools a little. This makes it difficult for him to use his mouth to form words so he chooses not to speak. They said this is so common mostly in boys and they see a quick turn around. It will be so weird to hear him talking all of the time but I cannot wait. I am just so thankful for a doctor that is on the ball and for great insurance that allows us to go to regular check ups. The nurse said that we are so lucky to be doing this early and I just know we will see quick progress.
