Harlee's speech class

Today was Harlee's last speech class with Miss Raquel. She was such a cute teacher for Harlee and Harlee loved going each week. I am so grateful for her efforts with Harlee and the progress that she is already making. I hope that her teacher next year is as great as Miss Raquel was.

Dance Festival

This morning was Luke's Dance Festival at school. We got him ready in his dark shorts and white shirt. They had to bring beach towels and had their faces painted. The kindergarten classes did a Polynesian number. It was so fun to watch Luke perform. So proud of you Luke for doing such a good job!

We were so thankful that Luke's class was first. Nash and Harlee, although looking happy in the picture, were ready to go!!

Luke's Birthday Party

Every other year we let the kids have a big birthday party with all of their friends. Since the baby could come at anytime, hopefully sooner than later, we decided to do his party a little early. We had it at Kangaroo Zoo and he invited 12 of his guy friends and his little sister. It was the best place to have a party. I got to sit and relax for a lot of it while they just played. They all had a great time and I am sure that they all slept great last night. I am so grateful for the good friends that Luke has made. He is such a great boy and I cannot believe he is already turning six. Where did the time go?? Love you Luke!

End of Soccer Season

Luke signed up last year to be in a fall/spring soccer league. The season came to an end on Saturday. I am a little bummed because over the last few games Luke has been doing so great. He has always done well but lately he seems to have lost his fear to get in the game and has done super well. We got a call last night to sign him up on a league with kids in this neighborhood. He seemed excited so we will be starting again soon!

Dance Recital

Yesterday we had the dance recital- Let's Get Crazy! This was the first year that Harlee was dancing and I was so excited. She did two dances- Happy Tappin with Elmo and Peppermint Twist. She did such a great job. She is kind of a natural. I have to admit that as I watched her at the stage rehearsal I got tears in my eyes. Such a dream of a dancer to have their little girl love dance too! It was a little bit difficult to get her ready and my own classes but we managed. She refused to sit with her class and mostly stayed backstage with me. It was a great show and so fun to share it with Harlee.

Basketball- His FAVORITE sport

Luke's friend Riley asked a few weeks ago if Luke would want to take a basketball class at the Flash. He has never played before but has wanted to, so we were really excited for him to get this opportunity. They meet on Wednesday's for 7 weeks to learn the fundamentals of basketball. The first week was not so great. Luke jammed his fingers and had a ball thrown at his face. When I was taking him the next week he said "I hope we don't have to dribble or pass the ball today!" I thought he might be pretty bummed when that is about all they did the next week, but he loved it. We just were given a hoop from someone in our ward who no longer uses theirs. Luke is loving it! He wants to be out there all the time shooting hoops. He is doing so well and we are so excited that he has found something other than video games that he loves!

Posing

Whenever there is a camera around Nash is ready to pose. He is always doing the funniest things. Harlee loves to get in on the action too! Here are a few shots they wanted me to take after Luke's Kindy 500 pics. What cute kids we have!

Kindy 500

About three weeks ago we got a letter home that Friday would be the Kindy 500. We were to make a car that using a cardboard box with paper plates for wheels. Luke and his classmates were going to take these cars on a trip around the United States. What a cute idea! So Joey and Luke went to work on this car. Luke wanted a BYU car with flames and I think that it turned out really great. Best news was that it stayed completely in tact for the whole journey.

Why is she so quiet?

The other day, I was trying to get some things done. Luke was playing at a friends house, Nash was sleeping and my sidekick was wanting to do everything that I was doing. I talked her into playing Nickjr on the computer. Harlee is one who always has something to say and after about 5 minutes of silence I begin to wonder if something was wrong. I walked over to the computer and hidden behind the big black chair was our little sleeping beauty. What a cute picture!

Mother's Day Get Away

For Mother's Day this year, I requested that we go and spend some time in our condo. I love my mom and mother-in-law but I just wanted to spend the weekend as a family. So we left Friday and had a really nice relaxing weekend. We spent lots of time at the pool and just as much time relaxing and napping. It was just what I wanted. On Mother's Day, Joey kept asking the kids what they loved about their Mom. Luke said "She is the best mom in the world and she makes me breakfast!" Harlee said "She plays with me and she is my best friend!" What great kids we have and I feel so so blessed to be their Mom.

Mom's and Muffins

Today was Mom's and Muffins Day at Luke's school. I figured it would be just like Dad's day but it was a little different. The kids put on a special program for us and then presented us with a gift. Luke's card was so cute. He said I was 33, weighted 5 pounds and was 2 inches tall. He is pretty right on with that info! They sang some of their favorite songs and poems. Then we got to enjoy muffins and look through his book. I was so grateful to be able to go and spend this time with him.

Luke's Hero Day

Today was Luke's Hero Day at school. Each child gets to celebrate their Hero Day on their birthday. Since Luke's birthday is in June, they celebrated today. We took in a poster and a flag that was made to represent Luke's Favorite Things. His favorites are:

Favorite Food- Pizza

Favorite Treat- Square Doughnuts

Favorite thing to do- Play Wii - Lego Star Wars

Favorite Movie- Star Wars the Clone Wars

Favorite Color- Red

I got to go to his classroom and talk about my special guy. I also read a Dr. Seuss book, one of Luke's faves, Hop on Pop. We then brought in square doughnuts to share with his friends.

Mrs. Westover presented Luke with a medal and told Luke why he was her hero. She said that when school first started, Luke was bullied by some boys on the bus. Luke was brave enough to tell an adult. She also said that Luke is always so good to fold his arms and be quiet whenever they are walking in the halls. The kids then lined up, girls on one side and boys on the other. Luke ran down the center why Mrs. Westover introduced him. As he was receiving high fives from his classmates she said "This is Luke Childs. He is now 6 and from Lehi Utah. He loves to play Wii."

What a great teacher she has been and I love how special she makes each child feel. Happy Hero Day to our Hero!!

* When we got home, Luke gave Harlee my medal from the Salt Lake Marathon to wear. How cute are they??

Just when you think....

Just when you think you are a pretty cool mom, a reminder comes that puts you back in your place. When Luke got home from school today I was reminding him that tomorrow is Moms and Muffins Day. This is a day I get to go spend a little time with Luke at his school. Anyway we enjoyed the following conversation:

"Hey Luke, did you remember tomorrow is Mom's and Muffins day?"

"Yeah. Mom, did you know not everyone is bringing their mom?" Luke said.

"Oh, would you rather take someone else?" I asked.

"Ok". Luke said

What???? Really, no hesitation. No, of course not mom, you are the best.

He then looks at me and asks, "Are you mad?"

"Nope". I say.

"Are you sad?" Luke asked.

"Maybe a little" I replied. "Who would you like to take?"

"I was going to say Riley's Mom but not anymore."

Oh well. Guess I need to step it up in the Mom department so that Luke might want his real Mom to join him on these special days.

*I am writing this down because although it stings a little, it is kind of funny. Also kind of expected from our little guy with no tact! Still love you Luke, even if I am not first choice!

Picture Day

On Saturday we had picture day for The Dance Depot. Since Harlee is now taking class she got to come with me. Do you think she minded the fact that she had to wear makeup? I don't think she did. She is such a girlie girl and I love it. I just had to post this picture of her all dolled up! Check out those LONG eyelashes!
