So we did it again! Since we are planning on going to St. George for our COVID Thanksgiving we decided to get Christmas set up early. I love the feeling that comes with having all of the decorations set up! Christmas Spirit makes me so happy! It is so beautiful.
Nash was chosen to be swimmer of the month for the month of November for Junior Prep. He was given a cool pair of goggles and his bio is up on the wall for the whole month. Here is what his bio says: Our Junior Prep swimmer of the month is Nash. He loves to swim the 50 or 100 free...and his favorite food is -well he will eat anything (like a real swimmer). Nash's swimming idol is his brother Luke... and Michael Phelps. Nash loves to play the guitar and is really into doing flips...(probably not at the same time) Nash's coaches say this about him: "Nash is always such a hard worker. He gives it everything he has at practice, and you can see the improvements because of it. He's always on task, and listens to us when we explain a set." Congratulations! We are happy you are on the team! So proud of you Nash. You work so hard at swim and I love that you are recognized for your dedication to swim.
We found out yesterday that after four and a half years of service, Joey is being released from the Bishopric. Bishop Vera was called into the Stake Presidency so the release came slightly sooner than we were expecting. We met with Bishop yesterday and then they were officially released this morning. I cannot put into words what a blessing it was to watch Joey serve the ward as first counselor. I have seen so much growth in Joey. This calling stretched him and he rose to the challenge. I am so grateful for his example and for the opportunity I had to watch the best man I know get even better. He texted me and said he is excited to see what Heavenly Father wants to teach him next. I can't wait to see also! Congratulations Joey on a job well done. Love you so much.
Tag is such a smart boy but when it comes to math he struggles a little. He can get the answer correct almost every time but he does not like to show his work. He had a big test the next day and so his teacher sent home a practice test. I was making dinner and trying to help him. Nash then asked if he could help Tag. He sat at the table with him and helped him until he understood how to do every problem. Nash was so patient with Tag and Tag did not get frustrated at all. I was so grateful that Nash saw an opportunity to serve and jumped on it. Such a great example. Nash's help paid off! Tag got 17/19 on his midterm. Amazing job Tig! As a reward for his willingness to help, Nash got to fulfill his dream of sitting on the fireplace! His friend Ike joined him.
When Joey and I were watching tv in bed tonight Tag came in to be the show. He had found the leftover moustaches from Halloween and went to town. We were cracking up! I love this sweet boy and how he can make anything fun.
For more years than I can remember my Dad has been taking Jenna and I to breakfast for our birthday. I was so happy that Jenna was feeling better and felt up to going. We went to One Man Band and enjoyed a yummy breakfast. It was so fun to have a little time to talk and catch up. So grateful for these breakfasts.
Forty-four- when did that happen? I cannot believe that I am that old. Joey and the kids made me feel so special that I almost forgot the fact that I am well on my way to fifty! I was spoiled with gifts, cards and cake. I am so grateful for my family. Joey and I went out on Saturday to celebrate. He knows that I love surprises so he took me to a new restaurant called Chunga's. It look a little sketchy and it was in a slightly scary neighborhood but I quickly learned to not judge by appearance. It was seriously the best Mexican food I have ever had. And the company was even better! Then as one more surprise, Joey made dinner on Sunday night. He made the best fajitas and homemade fries. It was so good and so nice to not have to make dinner. Thanks so much to my favorite people for making my birthday amazing.
Yesterday Nash came home from school and told me that a group of kids were teasing Tag by saying Mario Sucks since he was wearing his Mario mask and Mario backpack. The school went above and beyond to make sure that this does not happen again. They spoke with the boy that started the teasing and his teacher, each third grade class had a lesson on respecting others likes even if they don't like the same thing, Tag was taken to the school therapist to discuss his feelings, and the principal was made aware and vowed to keep an eye on things. I was so grateful and impressed. Nash and Gray also made a vow to stay with him and protect him in the morning. So this morning when Tag got ready for school he chose to wear his Mario shirt. I was so proud of him. He likes what he likes and he does not let the opinion of others sway him. He is such an example to me. He teaches me to stay true to myself and not worry about the opinion of others. I am so blessed to be Tag's mom and to get to learn from his amazing example.
Our babydog is four years old! I cannot believe he is already four. On one hand it feels like we got him yesterday and on the other hand I cannot remember our family without him. He is seriously the best dog. He makes all of us feel so loved. He loves to lay by the fire place and loves to play Tag. He hates contention and loves to snuggle. He is such a blessing in our family. We celebrated with a few new toys and a puppy cookie that he grabbed to go eat in private. We love you IkyPoops!
Today Jenna received some difficult news that her cancer had spread to her lymph nodes. We are all so sad and in disbelief. Jenna is so strong though! She meets with her oncologist on Monday and will get her plan. She will not need to have chemo- just radiation which is a blessing. We are continuing to pray for her and just know that she will come out stronger.
Harlee has been taking a Foods class this semester in school. She has learned to make lots of things, most of which she didn't love. She just learned how to make pumpkin spice macaroons. One of the things that she did like was homemade pizza with whole wheat crust. She made it for dinner for us and it was amazing! Everyone loved it which is a rare occasion at the Childs home. It was delicious and I am thinking Harlee should start sharing her talent once a week. Thanks Har!
